A little baking

I've been wanting to make a King Cake sometime this year for Mardi Gras so I got my grandmother to send me her recipe and I tried it out yesterday.  I think it turned out pretty yummy.  Unfortunately, there was no baby because those are hard to come by around Birmingham.  This is the cake I took to work and it's all squished because I didn't have a container big enough.  The picture has terrible lighting but I promise it was delish :)

It's only been 6 months...

I have had some curtains still in the packages for about 6 months.  Well, last weekend I finally hung the curtains and found some fabric for the nightstand to be covered with.  Yay, for being productive!

Roll Tide! Oh and Happy Valentine's Day.

Hope all of you had a happy vday.  We went to the Alabama gymnastics meet on Friday night and out to eat at El Rincon in Tuscaloosa beforehand.  It was a fun night!  Alabama beat Auburn by about 3 points, roll tide!

a "sort of" snow day

Last Wednesday night snow was in the forecast for Alabaster.  Did I think we would actually get snow?  no.  So far, we have yet to get any in Alabaster while Tommy and I have both been here.  Apparently, it snowed Christmas while we were in Monroeville (naturally, that would be the case!).  Well, it finally snowed Wednesday night, so exciting.  I'm watching the flakes fall, all the while thinking that work would at LEAST be delayed on Thursday or possibly cancelled.  How fun?!?  A snow day to stay home and actually play in the snow.  Not so fast... my mind got way ahead of me and low and behold we had to be at work first thing the next morning.  Are you kidding me??  It's snowing in Alabama for goodness sakes!!  Even the school buses ran.  Apparently, since we have had so much icy/wintry mix lately we have decided that we are capable of not shutting everything down for a little white blanket.  I did convince Tommy to take a few pictures early Thursday morning before we headed out.  (I was afraid it would all be gone by the time we got home)

This picture doesn't do the backyard trees justice, they were so pretty!  It was like a little winter wonderland.  The last time it snowed we were in the process of moving in and Tommy wasn't here.  That was nearly 2 years ago, whoa time flies.  Here are some of those pictures :)

Pitiful little snowman... it had probably been 5 years or so since I had even seen snow.  It's been fun but I think I'm ready for a little warmer weather!

P.S.  I meant to add in the last post that I'm taking suggestions for Maxima names.  I haven't come up a good name yet, Tommy has lots of terrible suggestions!

So Long, Cindi.

About a month ago the transmission went out in my little red civic, known to me as Cindi the Civic.  Just picture me, on Hwy 31, in traffic, pushing her off to the side of the road - horrible!  The car would not have gotten us much on trade in so we decided to get the transmission fixed and sell it on our own.  Well, as of yesterday, Cindi has a new owner.  Sad day! :(  Yes, I got attached to a car!!  I got it when I was a senior in high school with 23,000 miles on it and sold it yesterday with 143,000 miles on it.  It's amazing to me that I actually spent that much of my time in a car.  Here's a pic I got Tommy to take of me with the car before we sold her.

Hey yall... It's Mardi Gras

Being from South Alabama, I love Mardi Gras!  Here is the Mobile Mardi Gras song that I have to listen to every year - http://www.mobilemardigras.com/libary/MardiGrasInMobile.mp3  Click and listen :)

In an attempt to bring some Mardi Gras to Alabaster this year, I got creative and made a wreath for the front door and a little decorative thing (don't know what to call it) for my entertainment center. Here are some pics.

We aren't going to be able to make it to our usual ball this year but hopefully will make it for a parade or two.  I need to restock on my moon pies!  Happy Mardi Gras!

Blogging, shmogging...

This is what I've said for the longest time but hear I am... blogging.  Writing isn't even my thing.  Who knows where this will lead, what I'll write about or how often but here we go!
